I was a typical camera toting traveler, new to the digital world in 2002. I remember well the gray, drizzly day I was walking in Lucca, Italy, and my novice eyes could not see anything worth shooting. Then, like the scene in “Charade” at the stamp market, the bicycles just jumped out at me. Not only were they everywhere, they had such a wonderful combination of lines: I saw them as three dimensional graphic designs. Then I started to see them as design elements in the larger picture. After that, I started to notice color combinations or the atmosphere of a scene. In recent years, I have been experimenting with photo montage, but, my cycle portraits are especially dear to my heart as they were a gateway to a new creative life.
