Crampton creates plein air landscapes and still life paintings, which may include a car, an animal, or modern objects. The animals are witnesses to the scene. The addition of toys and modern detritus raises questions about our future, our collections of stuff, and our feelings about animals. Crampton also draws cartoons.
Carolyn Crampton, grew up near New York City, but spent a childhood summer in Europe, visiting countless museums. The feeling of being at home with the paintings forged her desire to be an artist.
After receiving her BFA from the University of Colorado, Crampton moved to San Francisco. Her works have been shown in the bay area and are included in many private collections. She is in the San Francisco Hunters Point Shipyard artist community.
