Artist Statement: My work is loosely representational. Recently I have been working on a series of Monoprints and Monotypes. These are somewhat like paintings on paper, but the quality of light can be very different and create a surface unlike any other. This process can be very spontaneous; at other times it requires a more methodical approach. Either way the results seem almost magical and continue to surprise me.
Some of my most recent Monoprints are actually Monotypes, as I am beginning with "Solar" plates and "Image On" Plates. I select photos with vague images of interiors and/or ancient architectural elements, then print these photographic images, combining them with a second and sometimes third plate, and sometimes incorporating chine colle elements. This allows me to explore an endless variety of interpretations of the ‘mood’ of the original photograph, and also insures that each monotype is unique.
I continue to be fascinated by the innate perspective found in photographs, and am enthusiastic about exploring the many variations that are possible when combining these elements with the unique technique of the Monoprint.
