Young advocates making a difference! Girl Scouts of all ages recite—and live by—the ideals listed in the Girl Scout Promise and Law, “They remind us to do our best in being kind to others, respecting ourselves, making the world a better place, and so much more.” Girl Scout Troop 10368 put their words into action by fulfilling their Bronze Award with a focus on Lyme disease and tick education in honor of their fellow troop member Hayley. LymeLight Grant Recipient Hayley has overcome tremendous challenges and is using her Lyme disease journey to educate and inspire others – and her troop members (Addie, Julia and Maddie) joined her in this effort to impact their community.

Girl Scout Troop 10368 hosted an awareness booth at the Santa Rosa annual “Kids in the Park” day at Howarth Park. The girls educated the public about ticks and passed out tick supplies as part of a “roll the dice” game. The girls also shared samples of their own DIY version of a tick spray. During the 4 hour event the girls were able to speak to well over 200 people both adults and children about the importance of being safe and aware on outdoor adventures. They also shared about LymeLight Foundation and handed out awareness brochures.

To prepare each of the girls took a part of tick education and researched more to get a great background knowledge of what ticks are, why they carry Lyme disease, what is Lyme disease and how to take precautions when outdoors. In April, three of the girls presented for their school Science Project about tick information and educated their classmates and teachers prior to the community event.

To continue their tick education and awareness campaign the girls are using all leftover supplies (tick spray, tick removers and awareness brochures) to create kits to pass along to neighbors in their respected neighborhoods. And they may even have additional community presentations in the future . . . more to come!

LymeLight applauds these young ladies who are making a difference in their community and in the world!
