Serita wanted to be a part of the exciting movement during May Lyme Awareness month to speak up and shine a light on an important cause that has impacted her life over the last 5 years. In an effort to raise awareness, educate the public, and also help children in need – Serita along with her friends and family will be walking the Bayonne Bridge which spans 1,675 feet over the Kill Van Kull from Staten Island, NY to Bayonne, NJ and back. She will be using this time to share resources with the community on tick prevention and Lyme disease awareness, providing healthy juice blends, all while raising funds to help children battling Lyme disease.

“This cause is deeply personal to me. I contracted Lyme disease while out pumpkin picking, and for nearly two years, I struggled with limited insurance coverage. This made it difficult to access the best care available, and I ended up paying hundreds of dollars out of pocket. At one point, I even had to rush my engagement just to qualify for better insurance.

As a parent, this experience was especially frightening. My two daughters were with me that day, and I can’t imagine them going through the same illness while also facing the financial stress of not being able to afford proper care. That fear and experience are what drive me to support LymeLight—so other families don’t have to face the same challenges alone.”

Serita chose LymeLight as her fundraiser beneficiary because she wanted to make a real difference in the lives of young people battling Lyme disease. Through this fundraiser, 100% of the funds raised will go directly toward grants that help children and young adults access the treatment they need— giving them a chance at healing and a more hopeful future.
