Monica – Finally Feeling Validated
In July 2019, I went camping at a lake in California. At the time, I wasn’t aware of Lyme disease. There were warning signs showing infected ticks in the area. After returning from the camping trip, I started to get flu-like symptoms and called out of work for a week. Weeks went by and I wasn’t feeling any better.
I went to my primary physician who did numerous tests. My doctor referred me to many specialists including an infectious disease doctor, neurologist, rheumatologist, and therapist. None of the specialists could figure out why I was so sick. The specialists decided that my symptoms were due to anxiety and I started taking anxiety medication and going to therapy. I knew that something was very wrong deep in my heart and no one believed me.
I found a Lyme-literate doctor in San Francisco. This new doctor finally made me feel like someone understood me. We ran special tests through iGeneX that confirmed my suspicion of Lyme disease and Babesia. I started IV antibiotics right away. I also started numerous herbal protocols for parasitic infections.
The funds from the Lymelight grant made this possible for me. I am so grateful that I was able to receive this grant. Not only did Lymelight validate my illness, they also funded a generous amount of money so I could continue to get better. Although I am not in remission yet, I have hope that I will be very soon. Treatment wasn’t possible without Lymelight Foundation. When I finally reach remission, I hope to someday work for Lymelight Foundation and help others in need who feel hopeless as I once did.
